水曜日の午後、私は会社で部長の誕生日カードを作ります。
紙をきれいに切りたいですから、はさみがほしいです。
でも、机の中にはさみがありません。
隣の山田さんは黒いはさみを持っています。
私は山田さんに「すみません、そのはさみを貸してください」と言いました。
今、山田さんの黒いはさみを使っています。

Grammar / Notes
- 〜がほしいです (want a thing) Noun + がほしいです says that the speaker wants a thing. The thing wanted takes が, not を. 紙をきれいに切りたいですから、はさみがほしいです。(“I want scissors because I want to cut the paper neatly.”)
- 〜ています (in progress) 〜ています attaches to the て-form and describes an action that is going on right now, like the English ‘-ing’ form. 今、山田さんの黒いはさみを使っています。(“Now, I am using Mr. Yamada’s black scissors.”)
English
Black Scissors
On Wednesday afternoon, I make a birthday card for my department manager at my company.
I want scissors because I want to cut the paper neatly.
But there are no scissors in my desk drawer.
Mr. Yamada next to me has black scissors.
I said to Mr. Yamada, “Excuse me, please lend me those scissors.”
Now, I am using Mr. Yamada’s black scissors.
