高い花

火曜日かようび、マリアさんと花屋はなやへ行いきました。
店みせの入口いりぐちに、とてもきれいな青あおい花はながありました。
私わたしは千円せんえんぐらいだと思おもいました。
店みせの人ひとに「いくらですか」と聞ききました。
その花はなは一万円いちまんえんでした。
とても高たかかったですから、買かいませんでした。

• 〜と思おもいます (I think) 〜と思おもいます expresses an opinion or belief. The clause before と takes the plain form. In the affirmative non-past, nouns and na-adjectives normally take だ before と思おもいます. 私わたしは千円せんえんぐらいだと思おもいました。(“I thought it was about 1,000 yen.”)

On Tuesday, I went to a flower shop with Maria.
At the shop’s entrance, there was a very beautiful blue flower.
I thought it was about 1,000 yen.
I asked the shop clerk, “How much is it?”
That flower was 10,000 yen.
Because it was very expensive, I did not buy it.
