  • 〜ています (in progress) attaches to the て-form and describes an action that is going on right now, like the English ‘-ing’ form. (“It is raining, so I am waiting at the company entrance.”)
  • 〜から (because) at the end of a clause gives the reason for what follows: ‘because A, B’. The reason clause comes first and may end in the polite form. (“It is raining, so I am waiting at the company entrance.”)

English

My Black Umbrella

It is raining, so I am waiting at the company entrance.
But my black umbrella is not in the umbrella stand.
A man is holding a black umbrella just like mine.
I said, “Excuse me, may I look at that umbrella?”
The man said, “Sure,” and showed me the umbrella.
Just then, a friend came and said, “You left your umbrella in the office.”
